Desperate days always fade
Days desperate for contact and company never last
Just like any other days
People come and go
Old people once desired
Are replaced with new people, newly desired
Daydreaming inside a building
Just like the ones I daydream of from the outside
Which knock me sideways with awe
When I visit the cities in which they dwell
The sound of shops in small towns in places the EU forgot
Rendered in grey pebble dash
Tower blocks with fluorescent stairwells
Standing alongside ring-roads
Dominating landscapes where they don’t belong
Kebab shops and taxi offices
Cheap car parks on the sites of demolished buildings
Dusk in the city viewed from a car
Flats, endless broadband and mobiles
Escapism and projection
A combination which never results in anything real
Besides the hole when dismantled by someone else
