However, I remember Marillion doing something similar many years earlier, and so I looked that up on YouTube and sent that clip back to him for discussion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lKA7D0LgFAk\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>My mate wrote back and said &#8220;<em>Marillion&#8217;s version might appear more impressive if it was not for the terrible cardigans they are wearing which diminish the gloves in my eyes<\/em>&#8220;, and this inspired me to write a poem about the humble cardigan which goes as follows.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alas poor cardigan<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Thou art not rock (nor roll)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Not even Kurt Cobain<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Could make you less than droll<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And even if you changed your name<\/em><br \/>\n<em>By procedure or deed poll<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Your drapey outer layering<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Is sartorial birth control<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And you will not aid musicians<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Demonstrating ways to enroll<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The latest space-age gestural box of tricks<\/em><br \/>\n<em>For onstage heart and soul<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Although you keep us warm<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I do think on the whole<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Dear cardigan, my wholesome friend<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Thou art not rock (nor roll)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, as I was putting this posting together I noticed that the members of Marillion are not wearing cardigans in the aforementioned clip (there&#8217;s a waistcoat but I don&#8217;t see what is so offensive about that).<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t discussed this with my mate yet, but it doesn&#8217;t diminish the validity or purpose of the poem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My friend sent me this video of Imogen Heap demonstrating her musical gloves This is a good video and definitely worth watching all the way through.
